Motor mount optimisation

An aluminium eVTOL motor mount refined through CAD revisions and structural analysis.

CAD render of the aluminium motor-mount bracket.
Final motor-mount geometry.

The brief

Develop a motor mount for an eVTOL tilt mechanism around fixed motor and pivot interfaces, balancing mass, strength, stiffness and three-axis CNC manufacture.

The approach

Successive CAD revisions remove material from low-stress regions and reshape the lower reinforcement. Finite element studies inform each geometry change, followed by review in the context of the motor, bell-crank and surrounding assembly.

Work shown

  • Component and assembly CAD
  • Assembly integration
  • Geometry revision and FEA study
  • Structural analysis

Design decisions

Retain the mounting interfaces.
Preserve the motor bolt pattern and pivot connections while revising the surrounding geometry.
Reshape the reinforcement.
Address stress concentrations while keeping the bracket suitable for three-axis machining.
